A leadership summit conference was held for two days on December 14th and 15th at the Hilton Capital
In Washington DC. The summit was sponsored by the Arab American Institute Foundation. Several organizations working in the field of human's right, civil society and equal opportunity have participated to the event. For-Mauritania received an invitation and was represented by Mohamed Ould Mineya
And Sidi Mohamed Ould Kaem who are coordinators for the US section.
Several workshops followed by Q&A ( questions and answer) were held during the conference. They were moderated by People from Arab American Institute, the Obama campaign and members of the new 111th Congress.
The workshop included several subject such as Election Retrospective Report, Establishing an Arab and Muslim presence in the Obama-Biden transition, Foreign Policy in 2009: Landscape and priorities for the Obama Administration and the 111th Congress and preparing for the 111th congress.
A lunch with appointed members of the Obama Administration team was held on Monday. These members were:
Michael Strautmanis: White House Chief Of Staff: Intergovernmental Affairs and Office of Public Liaison
Patrick Gaspard: Director of the Office of political Affairs
Daniel B. Shapiro: National Security Policy Advisor
Tim Bishop: Of the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs
Nelson Peacock: Senior Counsel with the office of Vice-President Joe Biden
For-Mauritania representatives took the opportunity during the Foreign Policy in 2009: Landscape and priority for the Obama Administration and the 111th congress workshop and gave an overview of the
Political situation in Mauritania and ask the new US administration and its congress for more help with the return of Democracy and the rules of law in Mauritania. For-Mauritania received a positive feedback from the audience members. Its representatives were assured that the new US administration and its 111th Congress will put all their efforts to help the Mauritanian people get their democracy back.
Mr. David Pollack the Co-Chair of the democratic Party in the state of New York and the Obama Campaign director on the same state offered his help.
For-Mauritania representatives were also offered help by
Mr. Omar Humadi Ethnic Outreach Director for the Ohio Democratic Party, Dr. Laith Kubba from the
National Endowment for Democracy and Daniel Levy from the New America Foundation and the Century foundation. Overall this was a very valuable opportunity for our young organization to be heard and get introduced to all the organization that participated as well as to the members of Obama transition team and the Hill staffers for the 111th Congress.
